Martie Harris

Martie Freeman Harris, 75, of Blacksburg, SC, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at her residence.

She was born on April 5, 1946, in Gaston County, NC, to the late Roy and Mae Freeman.

Martie was a hospital chairman for the state of North Carolina. She was a past president and secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary (Amvets) Gastonia and continued to be heavily involved in this organization for many years. She was a Past President of the Duke Retirees Committee.

Martie loved taking care of her turtles and overseeing her flower garden. She had a caring heart, and loved to donate to the ASPCA, Veterans, the Oxford Orphanage and several other organizations.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Freeman, and Bobby Ray Freeman, Sr.

Left to cherish Martie's memories, are her husband of 31 years, Joe Harris; daughters, Andrea Harris Owens of Pike County, GA, Gina Harris Trabue of Clover, SC, and Joanna Renee Harris of Gastonia; brothers, Ray Freeman of Houston, TX, and Larry Freeman, Sr. of Athens, GA;  3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Robert Baker, will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 216 Archie Westsides Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Regional Spartanburg Hospice – 686 Jeff Davis Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29303.

Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium.
