Mark Daniel Summitt, 64, left this earthly home for his heavenly one on April 28, 2014 at Caromont Regional Medical in Gastonia with his wife by his side. He was born December 23, 1949, native of Gaston County, son of the late, Mack Lindsey Summitt and Isabell Phillips Beck. He was a United States Army veteran and member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America. He was a charter member of the Columbus Boys Choir School, Princeton, NJ. A graduate of Ashley High School. He was a well-known Gospel musician and singer for many years who was known throughout the community because of his musical talent over the last 60 years singing gospel music. He was a previous member of Soul's Harbor Tabernacle, Gastonia. He leaves behind a loving wife, Linda W. Summitt of 42 years and two daughters, Markesha Summitt Parton of the home and Donna K. Bynum and husband, Jamie of Bessemer City, also his grandbabies, whom he adored more than life, Makayla and Hannah Parton of the home; brothers, Bill Summitt and wife, Betty of Gastonia, and Rev. Ben Summitt and wife, Patsy of Gastonia and sister, Barbara Pennington of Blacksburg, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Katie Hargett. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and forever friend and best grandfather ever. A funeral service will be held 2 pm on Thursday at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by, Rev. James Chambers. Visitation will be held 6 - 8 pm Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park.
