Margaret Alice Purkey Taylor "Granny", 80, of Bessemer City, passed away May 29, 2015 at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas. She was born January 28, 1935 a native of Gaston County the daughter of the late, Clyde W. and Daisy Purkey. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Susan Halk and husband, David of Gastonia, Diane Jones and husband, Terry of Gastonia; grandchildren Dawn Swanson and husband, Brian of Kings Mountain, Boomer Halk and wife, Kelly of Bessemer City, Stephanie Irwin and husband, Eric of Concord; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Lindsey Swanson, Bailey Halk, Nolen and Hudson Irwin; uncle Gordon and Betty Lewis of Gastonia; sister-in-law, Loretta Purkey of Gastonia; step-children, Allen Taylor, Lenea Stines, Jimmy Taylor and Cynthia Terry; five step-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend of the family, Cookie Swanson. The family wishes to give a special thanks to Debbie and Jerry Butler, Ricky and Rene Lovingood, Jimmy and Jenine Phiffer and Sam and Doris Scott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cedric A. Taylor; brothers, Lewis Purkey, Leroy Purkey and wife, Glenda. A funeral service will be held 3 pm Sunday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Millwood. The family will receive friends 12:30 - 3 pm Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Trinity Assembly Evangelical Church, Bessemer City.
