M. Ruth Chastain Smith

Gastonia, NC- M. Ruth Chastain Smith, 82, of Gastonia, passed away Sunday, January 5th, at Caromont Regional Med. Ctr., Gastonia. She was born March 21, 1931 in Benton, TN daughter of the late William Jeff Chastain and Lona Campbell Chastain. A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm on Wednesday January 8, 2014 at Sandy Plains Baptist Church, Gastonia. The family will receive friends 2:00 - 3:00 pm in the Family Life Center prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert G. Smith of Gastonia; son, Terry C. Smith of Gastonia; daughter, Rhonda S. Cook of Gastonia; brothers, J.G. Chastain of Blue Ridge, GA; Bobby Chastain of Blue Ridge, GA, Ronald Chastain of Powder Springs, GA; Charles Chastain of Flat Rock, AL; sister, Willene Collis of Mableton, GA. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters; Marie Todd, Della Brown, Naomi Carmon, Margaret Picklesimer, and Doris Holland.
