Lyla Grace Davidson Emmons, 94, of Gastonia, NC passed away June 2, 2016. She was born June 24th, 1921 in Summit Hill, Pa, daughter of Rev. Norman Lambut Davidson and Bertha Isabel Campbell. Lyla served in the Norfolk Naval Hospital as a surgical nurse until the end of WWII. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Emmons whom she married on March 29, 1947. She was a seamstress, taught sewing lessons and ran a fabric store. She was active in her church and took in many parishioners who needed help after an illness. She was head of the ladies aid society and taught Sunday school. She also worked as a volunteer at blood mobiles around the central NY area for many years.
Lyla is survived by three of her siblings, Naomi Search, Vida McKay and Sterling Davidson, her daughter Lois and Michael Thorne, and her son Louis Emmons, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A memorial celebrating her life will be held at the New Covenant Church on 631 Efird St. in Gastonia on June 25th at 5 pm.
