Lona "Velma" P. Davis Head

Lona "Velma" P. Davis Head, 92, of Bessemer City, passed away on October 14, 2015, at Peak Resources, Cherryville. She was born April 26, 1923, in Gaston County, daughter of the late George Arthur Pinner and Ella Elizabeth Rector Pinner. Mrs. Head was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church, Dallas, for many years and was very active in work and activities at the church. She was a wonderful, loving and caring mother and grandmother, who loved to cook and bake for everyone. She will be lovingly missed by all of her family and friends. Before she passed away, there was five generations in her family. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Walnut Grove Baptist Church, 3265 Dallas Cherryville Hwy. Dallas, officiated by the Revs. Steven Weaver and John Harper. The family will receive friends 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Friday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Mrs. Head is survived by, son Wesley Dean Davis; daughter, Brenda Davis Long and husband Don; she was the sixth of nine children, with one surviving brother, Winfred "Buddy" Penner; eight grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; several great- great- grandchildren; In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by, husbands, Bill Davis and Clyde Head; a son, Charles Ray Davis; a daughter, Janice Renee Davis. Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
