Gastonia, NC Lloyd A. McDonald, age 72, passed away on February 17, 2013 at his home. He was born October 15, 1940 in Gaston County, son of the late Willene McDonald. Mr. McDonald was proud to serve in the US Army as a Paratrooper in the 82nd. Airborne Division, earning the highest title of Jumpmaster. He served in Korea, Vietnam and was a Bronze Star recipient. Lloyd was a member of the American Legion, Post 23, Gastonia, where he served as a member of the Honor Guard. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Gastonia and was an avid outdoorsman. A funeral service will be held 2 pm on Thursday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Dickie Spargo. The family will receive friends 1-2 pm on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Gastonia, with honors by the American Legion Honor Guard. He is survived by: his loving wife of 29 years, Donna Kindley McDonald of the home; children, Ken McDonald and his wife, JoLynn, Todd McDonald, Whit McDonald; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, P. O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054 or American Legion, Post 23, 109 W. Second Ave., Gastonia, NC 28052.
