Lewis Glenn Brimer, 93, of Gastonia, NC, passed peacefully on Jan. 3 2017.

He was a native of York, SC, son of the late Floyd Vollie Brimer, Sr. and Jessie Eddleman Brimer.

Mr. Brimer was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Aurelia Brannon Brimer, and son, Robert Glen Brimer.

Mr. Brimer was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church.

Lewis started his career as a repairman at Cannon Mills in York, SC before courageously persuing success by becoming a welder at the Naval Shipyard in Baltimore, MD. He faithfully served his country in the US Navy during WWII, aboard the DE-531 Edward H. Allen. Upon his return to Gastonia, he trained to became a plumber and was employed byTi-Caro  Mills. Lewis went on to spend the next two decades establishing a community of rental properties that many people would call home. He was an entrepreneur at heart, with a work ethic and drive that was unparalleled.

Lewis was both industrious and artistic. He managed to see the detail and beauty in things, from his own thoughtful portraits of colored pencils and chalks to his deliberate display of blooms in the garden. Though he enjoyed his desserts, he was an avid walker and pushed to maintain his impeccable strength throughout his senior years. Lewis was a devoted collector of oddities and loved to share the joy he found in them with others. More than anything, he loved being around people and family, bringing smiles to faces. With his uncanny wit and outgoing personality, he never met a stranger. Lewis was a familiar fixture at Morningside of Gastonia, where he lived 14 years with the respect and love of a second family that will never be forgotten.

Survivors include son, Larry Brimer, and wife, Mary; sister, Nellie Schools of York, SC; grandchildren, Chuck Brimer and wife, Leslie, Dr. Crystal Brimer, and husband, Joe Nemeth of Wilmington, NC; great grandchildren, Luke, Aurelia, and Benjamin Brimer; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by siblings, Leonard, Ed, and Floyd, Ethel Blanton, Helen Tallant, Ruby White, Jessie Huffstetler, and Clota McCalister.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Friday at Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

Visitation will be from 10-10:45 am prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia with full military honors.

Officiating: Rev. Lamar Creel and Rev. Dennis Boyce

Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
