Lester John Detter

Lester John Detter, 89, of Kings Mountain, passed away December 19, 2023, at his home.

He was born July 6, 1934, in Gaston County, son of the late Earnest Floyd Detter and Eva Costner Detter.

Lester was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Bessemer City.

He enjoyed building and remodeling and he had even helped build the church.

One of his favorite things to do was to go fishing.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at New Life Baptist Church 614 South 11th Street Bessemer City, officiated by Pastor Dennis Gomez.

The family will receive friends 2-3 pm prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.

Lester is survived by his wife, Patricia Owensby Detter; son, Dennis Detter (Christy); daughters, Helen Suggs (Larry), Nadine Christin, Linda Burchfield, Sherry Morgan, Roxie Ellis; stepdaughters, Wanda Plemmons (James), Kathy Whilden; stepson, Shane Whilden (Marsha); sisters, Pauline Croft (Glen), Shirley Stillwell, Patricia Brooks; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen step- grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Evans Detter; grandson, Travis Proctor; siblings, Becky Ghorley, Edward Detter, Tommy Detter; stepsons, Joey and Ricky Whilden.

Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service located at 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia.
