Lawrence "Deerhunter" Hensley, 75, of Shelby, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Madison County, NC, he was born June 25, 1939 son of the late George A. and Minta Landers Hensley. He was an avid outdoor sportsman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hensley was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary and Martha Hensley, Dot Murhammer; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond Milton Landers and Jo-Helen Cook Landers; brothers-in-law, Amos and Homer Henderson. He is survived by his wife, Vickie Hensley; sons and daughters-in-law, Andy Hensley, Tony and Angela Hensley, Jimmy and Robin Hensley, Billy Meeks, Tony Rice, and Chris Hensley; daughters, Melissa Skelton and friend, John, Gal Knight, Brandy Hensley, and Joanna Childers and husband, Gene; brother, James Hensley and wife, Sandra; sisters, Erline Landers Henderson, Aline Landers Clemmer, Betty Hensley Burleson and husband, Tarp; aunt, Roxie Landers Rector; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Danny Penny, will be held 4pm Sunday, September 21 at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
