Rev. Lathan Thomas Rollins, 88, of Gastonia, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 29, 2016 following a period of declining health.
Lathan was born December 23, 1928 in Greenville County SC, and was the son of the late Arthur Niles and the late Beatrice Smith Rollins.
He graduated from Welcome High School, attended Bob Jones University, and received a BA degree in Sociology/Psychology from UNC Charlotte. He was a retired ordained Church of God minister, and pastored churches in North Carolina for 42 years. He was a member of South Gastonia Church of God.
Rev. Rollins was the former Pastor of Taylorsville Church of God, Durham Church of God, and Lowell Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Hylan B. Rollins and sisters, Miriam R. Seymore and Audrey R. Shockley.
Left to cherish his memories are his niece and caregiver, Phyllis S. Sprouse of Greenville, SC; nephews Michael Shockley (Sandra) of Mauldin, SC and Gerald Shockley of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 10:30-11:30am on Monday, January 2, 2017, at the South Gastonia Church of God, 310 Carolina Ave, Gastonia.
A funeral Service will be held noon at the church.
Interment will follow 2:00pm at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC.
