It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Dale Black, who left us on July 9, 2026, at the age of 68. Born in Gaston County, North Carolina on December 11, 1957, Larry spent his life dedicated to his work in public works for the City of Ranlo, making a difference in Gastonia, where he happily resided.
Larry was a proud member of the Baptist faith and a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Sharon Layel Black. He was also survived by his son, Joshua Dale Black; daughter, Holly Cordelia Knight (Tonya); grandchildren, Jayce and Kayden; siblings, Cathy Farrar, Donnie Black (Cathy), David Black, Brenda Black, and Patricia Self (Richard); several nieces and nephews. He found joy not just in his work, but in the warmth of his family, especially cherishing those precious moments spent with his grandbabies.
A passionate football fan, Larry had a special place in his heart for the Steelers and the Tar Heels, and he never missed a chance to cheer them on from the comfort of his living room.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Larry's life during a memorial service that will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He will be missed deeply by all who had the privilege to know him.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Frances Black; brothers, Charles Black, and Jimmy Black; sisters, Sandy Black and Retha Black.
