Kathy Joy Clemmer (Joy)
Age 50, Gastonia, North Carolina
November 8, 2025
Kathy Joy Clemmer moved to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from Carolina Caring Hospice House in Newton, North Carolina.
Joy was born on Sunday, December 15, 1974 at Gaston Memorial Hospital to Don and Sandra Clemmer. She attended North Gaston High School and Gaston College, where she studied law, and worked for a time as a legal assistant. Later she went on to get her insurance license, and worked as an insurance representative for a local company. Joy had a passion for gardening and loved flowers. She was very creative in different types of art and craftwork, especially painting. She loved her family, and she loved animals. But more importantly, she loved her Lord and Savior, whom she surrendered her life to. She loved reading and studying God's Word, and desired to know Him more and more. She was always ready to open her home to friends and family, and anyone in need. Throughout her numerous hospital stays, she would share the gospel with anyone who came into her room. She attended Strong Tower Ministries Church in Dallas, NC until she was no longer able. In 2022, Joy developed leiomyosarcoma, a very rare cancer. She fought it for three years until the Lord called her home.
Preceded in death are Joy's grandparents, Cullen and Shirley Clemmer, Herb Lankford, and Laura Goodson, as well as her brother-in-law, who was more like a brother, Virgil Sutton.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Erin Clemmer-Castillo, Madison Robinson (Jaret), and Carson Will (of the home), her precious granddaughter Eleanor (Ella) Castillo, her parents, Don and Sandra Clemmer, her sisters, Donna Sutton and Phyllis Leffaye (Ron), also her nephews and niece, Mitch Sutton (Holly), Coleman Hattaway (Olivia), Jill Luttman (Harrison), and Caleb Sutton, as well as six great-nephews and two great-nieces.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Strong Tower Ministries Church, 109 W. Church Street, Dallas, NC. Visitation with the family will be at 1:00 PM, with service following at 2:00 PM.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Tom Will, DL Pressley, Lisa Robinson, as well as the staff of Carolina Caring Hospice House in Catawba County, who along with her family, made her last days easier by visiting and helping with her care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Carolina Caring Hospice House - 3975 Robinson Rd Building 3, Suite A, Newton, NC 28658 or to Strong Tower Ministries Church - 109 W. Church Street, Dallas, NC 28034 or to Grace Baptist Church - 2200 Auten Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.
