Kate Shires Gibson

Gastonia, NC Kate Shires Gibson, 87, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Alexandria Place, Gastonia. She was born June 30, 1925 in Lincolnton, NC, daughter of the late Charlie W. and Betty Smith Shires. Mrs. Gibson was retired from Carolina Mills at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Arthur H. Gibson; son, Michael A. Gibson; grandson, J. Keith Stroupe. She is survived by: daughters, Pat and Harold Baliles, Barbara and Ernie Bryant, Teresa and Jim Moore all of Gastonia, Gail Hall of Lowell; Mrs. Gibson had 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild. She is also survived by her loving companion, Mr. Charles Koman. Services will be at Calvary Baptist Church, 3001 South York Road, Gastonia, on Monday, May 20, 2013, with the visitation beginning at 1:00 pm and the funeral at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Josh Glandon. Burial to follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia. The family will receive friends other times at the home of Ernie and Barbara Bryant.
