Karryn Wray Franz

Karryn Flora Franz of Gastonia, NC passed away Friday, June 21, 2024.

She was born December 4, 1952, in York, SC to the late George and JoAnn Flora.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Whitley; and a daughter, Kathryn Lovin.

Karryn was a 1971 graduate of Terry Sanford Senior High School in Fayetteville, NC. She worked almost 30 years for Caromont Health, leaving in 2013 due to health issues. Karryn was known to smile and speak to everyone, no matter their position. She was a staunch advocate for education, and she was especially proud of sending both of her daughters to nursing school. She also had a wicked and naughty sense of humor.

She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Poteat (Scott) of Gastonia, NC; 2 brothers, Steve Flora of Madison, Alabama and Randy Flora (Tina) of Clover, SC; 1 sister, Jayne Flora of Gastonia, NC; and special cousin, David Wray (Starr) of Lake Wylie, SC. Also left to cherish her memory are 7 grandchildren, Peyton, Christian, and Madisyn Stepp, Connor Lovin, Emma, Abby, and Jonathan Poteat, all of whom miss Granny terribly; former sons-in-law, Michael Stepp of Cherryville, NC and Benjy Lovin of Raleigh, NC; and a nephew, John Crisco (Kira) of Denver, NC, who was born on her 22nd birthday. Nieces, Angie Stevens and Leigh Stevens of Alabama, Shelby Strait of Rock Hill, Jenny Flora and Ashley Flora of Clover, SC; and several great nieces and nephews also survive Karryn.

A very special note of love and gratitude is sent to her sister Jayne for being a constant companion and caregiver for the last several years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation of Orlando, Florida.

A memorial service officiated by Rev. Sam Barnette, will be held 5:00pm, Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
