Karl Anders Brottenberg

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Karl Anders Brottenberg, who left us on June 25, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on December 8, 1940, in Nassau County, New York, Karl spent his later years in Stanley, North Carolina, where he truly made his mark.

Karl was a man of many talents. A master painter by trade, he dedicated countless years to commercial and residential painting, working hard for both his family and himself. But he was so much more than his profession. An avid fisherman, Karl found joy in the peaceful moments spent by the water, and he was a whiz in the kitchen, delighting everyone with his baking and cooking.

Karl was a proud member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Stanley, where he was known for his warmth and kindness, where he filled his role as an usher. He touched many lives with his genuine spirit.

He was a loving husband to Teresa Brottenberg; daughter, Laura Berk (Richard); son, John Brottenberg (Dawn); stepson, Chris Harbin; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Holcombe (Josh) grandchildren, Josh Berk ( Ashley), Dr. Daniel Berk, Kaitlin Brottenberg, Andrew Brottenberg, Alexa Holcombe, and Jonathon Holcombe (Ariana); great grandchildren, Theo Berk and Reese Holcombe; sister, Ellen Cummings; nieces, Alice Heath and Terry Sue Cummings.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Valborg Brottenberg; great grandson, Jace Holcombe; brother in law, Capt. James Scott Cummings.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at First Freewill Baptist Church in Stanley, starting at 12:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation at 11:00 AM before the service.

We invite everyone who knew Karl to join us in celebrating his life. He will be greatly missed, but his love and laughter will forever linger in our hearts.
