Joyce Laverne Griffie

Joyce Laverne Griffie, 74, of Gastonia, NC, passed away August 29, 2024, at Somerset Court in Cherryville, NC.

She was born July 18, 1950, in Gaston County, NC to the late Billy and Vernie Griffie.

Joyce was a member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelors degree in Education. She spent over 30 years teaching in the Mecklenburg County (NC) school system. After her retirement from Mecklenburg County, she worked at Gaston College.

Joyce is survived by her sisters, Karen Alley and husband Rev. Gene Alley, and Billie Fitzgerald and husband Michael; a cousin, Carolyn Frady and husband David; a nephew, Michael B. Fitzgerald; and many other cousins.

A memorial service for Joyce will be held at Somerset Court, 401 W. Academy St., Cherryville, NC at a later date.
