Joseph David Wylie, Sr.

Joseph David Wylie, Sr., 87, of Gastonia went to be with the Lord December 30, 2014 at the Robin Johnson House. He was born April 17, 1927 native of Gaston County, son of the late June Monroe and Viola Davis Wylie. He was married to the late Bertie Messer Wylie for 64 years. He was a veteran of the US Army who served during WWII. He was a part of the Gaston County Christian Jail Ministry for 27 years and involved in the music ministry of local nursing homes for more than 30 years. He was also a member of The Singing Thronemen in the 70's. He attended Cornerstone Family Worship in Mt. Holly. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Robechek and Dr. Holshouser of the Sanger Clinic, VA Hospital in Salisbury, VA Charlotte Clinic and the Robin Johnson House in Dallas. Joseph is survived by sons, Joe Wylie, Jr., Jerry Wylie and wife Barbara; daughters Carolyn Pope Keyser and husband Tony, Janice W. Jenkins and husband, Tim; sister, Shirley Case; grandchildren, David Laws, Wayne Wylie, Christina Wall, Angie Marlowe, Debbie Reinhardt, Melanie Pullen; great-grandchildren, James and Trent Laws, Maddison and MaKayla Wall, Victoria Wylie and Elijah Reinhardt and friend for over 80 years, Clyde Sansom. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dexter, JC and Riley Wylie; sisters, Ethel Wylie, Pauline Bingham and Rachel Teague. A funeral service with full military honors by the US Army and Gaston County Honor guard will be held 2 pm Saturday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Kevin McClure. The family will receive friends 6 - 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hillcrest Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice (Robin Johnson House) - PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054 or Gaston County Christian Jail Ministry - PO Box 1264, Dallas, NC 28034. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
