(obituario español a continuación)

Jose Luis Ortiz died on May 9, 2020 in Caromont Hospital in Gastonia, North Carolina. He was 71 years old.

He was born on May 30, 1948 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, the second-born child of Albertina Castaneda and Isidro Ernesto Ortiz. He was a brother to Ana Maria Ortiz, Moises Ortiz and Lidia Noemi Ortiz de Vicente.

He grew up in a Christian household and was baptized at 13-years-old. He studied theology and dedicated his life to work in Christian ministry. He worked for Mision Mundo Unido and was the founder of Iglesia Genezareth, now know as Rosa de Saron, in the city of San Francisco, Guatemala. He ministered there for 13 years.

He met his wife, Enma Antuche, when he was invited to preach at Iglesia Presbiteriana Bethesda, a church in Guatemala's Zona 6. They got married on March 10, 1990.

The opportunities to minister in the United States arose after visiting his sister in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1982. In 1994, he moved to northern New Jersey with his pregnant wife and first-born son, Luis Alberto.

He collaborated with and preached at various Spanish-speaking churches in New Jersey, such as those in Patterson, Newark, Elizabeth, Union City and North Plainfield.

Jose Luis Ortiz and his family moved to Gastonia, North Carolina, in 2007. He continued to work and preach in various churches in the area until he was no longer able, due to complications with Parkinson's disease.

He was a loving, caring and thoughtful husband and father. He was admired and respected for his kindness by his friends and those who knew him through church.

His wish was to always work for the Lord, and he did just that until God called him into his presence.

He is survived by his wife Enma, two sons Luis Alberto and David Ernesto, his daughter Jennifer Analy, and his dog Elmo.

We thank the Lord for allowing us to share this life on earth with him and enjoy his many dad jokes and impromptu songs. We look forward to someday being reunited with him, in Jesus Christ.
