With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Johnny Ray Scarborough, who departed this life on May 13, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on February 6, 1955, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Johnny spent his life making connections and creating memories that will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones.
Johnny was a dedicated truck driver, weaving through miles of highway and bringing joy to all those who knew him along the way. He possessed an incredible ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, turning strangers into friends with his warm smile and easy demeanor. Beyond the highways, Johnny was a passionate lover of music; often seen strumming his guitar and sharing his love for singing, he could brighten any gathering. In his downtime, he embraced the beauty of the mountains, finding peace in their majesty and solace in their quiet presence.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, of over 40 years Phyllis Scarborough, who stood by his side through every journey, both on the road and in life. and son, Greg; stepdaughter, Stephanie; granddaughters, Kassie, Sophia; great-grandson, Levi; sisters, Shirley and Linda and beloved fur baby Rocky.
Johnny was preceded in death by parents, Coy and Mildred Scarborough; siblings Walter, Mary, Betty, Mattie, Jerry, Robert, Francine.
Friends and family are welcome to gather for a visitation on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 5:00 -7:00 pm, at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel, Following the funeral service, Johnny will be laid to rest at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, where his spirit will watch over his favorite places and people.
Johnny Ray Scarborough may have left this world, but his laughter, love, and the memories he created will live on eternally in all our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Johnny. His warmth and kindness will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
