Johnny R. Pennington, 65, of Gastonia, passed away April 22, 2017 at his residence.
A Gaston County native, he was born February 25, 1952, the son of the late Lloyd Pennington and Laura Robinson.
Johnny was raised by his grandparents, Rev. Lloyd and Annie Bell Pennington, who he considered his Mom and Pop.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed working on his pond, woodworking and building things.
Mr. Pennington was a member of First Assembly in Gastonia.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed with Wix for 27 years.
Left to cherish his memories are his sweet wife of 47 years, Stephanie Marlene Pennington; daughter, Beverly "Buffy" Welborne and husband Eric; grandchildren, Matthew and Emily; our fur baby, Lilly Mae; special family and friends, Ann and John Dalrymple, Linda Spencer, Richard Johnson, Marilyn Beavers, Charles and Lib Pennington, Joyce Pennington, Boyce Pennington, Nelda and Jay Stiles.
A Celebration of Life service, officiated by Pastors Dennis Boyce and Lamar Creel will be held 3 PM Tuesday, April 25 at First Assembly,
777 S. Myrtle School Rd., Gastonia.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium.
