Johnny Ebert Grindle, 78, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia.
He was born March 9, 1944, in Gaston Co, NC, son of the late Harold and Ellen Grindle.
Johnny was a previous member of Carson Memorial Baptist Church. He was a US Army Veteran and was a retired Police Officer from the City of Gastonia, after 15 years of service. He was known for calling people "sug", as he patrolled uptown Gastonia. His favorite hobby was carp fishing, which he done competitively.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brenda Edwards Grindle; daughter, Tracy Cook (Gary); son, Brian Grindle (Jamie); sisters, Libby Lee, and Aretha Rollins; grandchildren, Josh Phillips (Isabel), and Stacey Phillip; great granddaughters, Lily and Evelyn Phillips; and special friends, Dillon, Kristy, and Jakob Kirkendall, and Jimmy and Lynn Stamey.
A graveside service officiated by Rev. Sam Barnette, will be held 12:30pm, on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, with US Army and Police Honors.
Family will receive friends 11-12pm on Sunday, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.
