He was born July 20, 1929 in Cherokee County, SC son of the late Sam Brown Wray and May Roby Byers Wray. Mr. Wray was a member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia. He served in the Army National Guard and was retired from Wix Filters. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm on Friday at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia officiated by Rev. Roger Overton. The family will receive friends 7:00 - 9:00 pm on Thursday at Greene Funeral Service , West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd., Gastonia. Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City. Mr. Wray is survived by: son, John Wray Jr. and wife Marsha of Gastonia; grandchildren, Jason Wray and wife Sherry of Gastonia; great grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob, Aiden, Zackary, Addison, and Isabella Wray; brother in-law, Dean Ledford; sister in-law, Carole Newton; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: his wife, Angeleana Ledford Wray; special friend, Tiger;11 brothers and sisters.
