John "Johnny" William Haley, Sr.

John "Johnny" William Haley, Sr. 81, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023, at The Addison of Lincoln County, NC.

He was born November 19, 1941, in Abingdon, VA, son of the late James Edward Haley and Lillie Mae Haley.

Johnny was a Veteran of the US Navy. He was self-motivated and self-taught. Johnny loved the outdoors and was adventurous. He was an avid hunter, rockhound, and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Merilda Foss Haley; brother, Harry Haley; and sisters, Cleo McKinney, Betty Snyder, Shirley Hill, Patsy Hedgecoe.

Johnny is survived by his son, John Haley (Sheila); daughter, Michelle H. Hamrick; and grandchildren, Patrick Haley, and Samantha Hamrick.

A memorial service officiated by Pastor Chris Faile will be held, Saturday, January 28, 2023, 4:00 PM at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd. Gastonia, NC.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
