John Wright Reynolds, 92, of Hickory, NC, passed away on January 2, 2024, in Caromont Regional Medical Center, in Gastonia, after months of declining health.
John was born on May 22, 1931, in Coshocton, Ohio, to Harlan B. Reynolds and Lucille B. (Wright) Reynolds. He was a 1949 graduate of Warsaw High School, in Warsaw, Ohio. He was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, in Hickory, where John was a CYO youth group advisor for several years, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6451, for 37 years.
John, a US Army Korean War veteran, served two years on Okinawa. He then entered the GE apprentice program in Ohio and was transferred to the GE naval ordnance plant in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. John was later promoted to Tool Room Supervisor and transferred to the then new, Hickory GE plant, where he finished his career.
John volunteered as a PTA president at Kenworth Elementary School, as band boosters' officer and president at St. Stephen's High School, and as a coach of his son's youth basketball team. He also enjoyed fly fishing, golf, beach, and mountain vacations, playing Bridge, ballroom dancing, and live music venues.
John is survived by his children, Karen S. Reynolds, of Garner, NC, Mary R. Teeters (John), of Belmont, NC, and John P. Reynolds, of Hickory. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael J. (Amber) Reilly, of Fairhope, AL, Hannah L. (Ralph) DenHartog, of Pooler, GA, Thomas D. Teeters and Elizabeth G. Teeters, of Belmont, NC.
John was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn S. Reynolds, his brother and sister-in-law, William J. and Gladys M. Reynolds, daughter, Elaine M. Reynolds, and infant son, David J. Reynolds.
Funeral services will be held on January 19, 2024, at 2 pm. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory with a graveside service immediately following at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the Army National Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the charities of your choice.
