John Walter Pittman, 83, of Gastonia, NC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at home with his loving wife by his side.
He was born February 3, 1938 in Italy, Texas, son of the late Rosa Lee Scott Howell and Keith Walter Pittman.
John was in the grocery business for over 50 years, he retired from Kroger Save-On, Acosta Sales, Lowes Food and Winn-Dixie. He was the owner of Big John's Fishing and Deli, Gastonia. John enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and friends and attended Bethesda United Methodist Church, Gastonia.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Carrol Pittman; and sister, Phobia Ragsdale.
He is survived by his wife of over 38 years, Judy Poteat Pittman; daughter, Donna Stevens and Eddie; son, J.C. Smith and Jackie; grandchildren, Gina Cooper, Brent Stevens, Zack Smith and Rona, and Angel Cooper; bonus family, Chera Sellers and Blair, Lucretia Hastings, Scott Hastings and Tammy Tippins; and bonus grandchildren, Morgan Hastings, Dakota Masten, Abe Rice, Berkley Sisler, Copelyn Sisler, Justin Coleman, Skyler Sellers and Sophie Sellers.
All services are private at this time.
Memorials may be made to Bethesda Methodist Church, Building Fund – 3714 S. New Hope Rd., Gastonia, NC 28056.
Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
