John Edward Nichol Jr., 71, of Gastonia, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026. He was born on December 9, 1954, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
John spent most of his life working in printing, where people knew him for his steady work when it mattered. But the things he truly loved were his dogs, his friends, and the simple joy of spending time with the people who meant something to him. He didn't worry about fancy things or rushing through life. He cared about good moments, good company, and the laughter that came easily when you were around him.
He was a jokester at heart, the kind of man who could lighten any room with a well-timed joke, even when things were tough. He lived at his own pace, took his time, and never felt like he had to prove anything to anyone. But what he gave to the people who loved him was real: loyalty, humor, and a kind of quiet warmth that made everyone feel like they mattered.
He is survived by his sons, Robert Nichol (Kayla), and Christopher Nichol, who remember him not just for his humor but for the way he loved them, even if he didn't always say it out loud. He is also survived by his sisters, Debbie Marlof (Bob), Kathy O'Brien (Jim), and Barb Hettinger (Paul).
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kathryn Nichol, and his best friend, Robert Bundy, the one person who knew him best.
The South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service is honored to serve the Nichol family. Condolences may be shared online at: www.greenefuneral.com.
