John Edward Mcnamara Jr.

John Edward McNamara Jr., 72, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022, at Caromont Regional Medical Center.

A native of Mt. Holly, NC, John was born October 23, 1949, to the late John E. McNamara Sr., and Alice Ballard McNamara.

John worked as a Gaston County Police Officer.  He also worked at various positions at Food Lion, where he met his loving wife 40 years, Betty. John was a wonderful husband, Dad, Grandpa, and brother. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Gary Hovis and Tom Alden.

John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Garland McNamara; daughters, Amy Lowrance and Katie McNamara; sisters, Kay Alden, Debbie Harris and husband Scott, and Jane Hovis;  a brother, Joe McNamara and wife Kay; and grandson, Logan Lowrance.  He is also survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 1:30-3:00 pm, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC.  The service will follow in the chapel at 3:00 pm.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont, NC.
