John Edward Martin Sr., lovingly known as "John Boy," Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 31, 2025, at the age of 89 in Shelby, North Carolina,

Born on September 1, 1935, in Durham, NC, John lived a full and vibrant life marked by passion, dedication, and faith. A devoted Christian, he carried his beliefs with quiet strength and grace.

John had a lifelong love for bowling and spent many years doing so weekly traveling the United States participating in tournaments. He was also a proud entrepreneur and owner of Johns Lunch Service, a beloved food truck business which he ran for 40+ years he served the community with heart and great food. Whether behind the wheel of his food truck or a bowling ball, John brought joy, dedication and a strong work ethic to all he did. His competitive spirit was matched only by the joy he found in the community and friendships he made along the way.

He was a man of laughter and wisdom. Someone who touched many lives with his outgoing personality.

He is survived by his children: John "Scooter" Martin Jr., Pam Buchanan (Steve) and Debbie Holloway.

His Grandchildren include: Brayden John Modlin, Abigail Leigh Raymond, Brian Buchanan (Naomi), Ben Buchanan (Cassie) and Travis Thompson (Mindy).

He was also blessed with great grandchildren: Logan, Landon and Cole Buchanan; Brady, Braxton and Boden Thompson.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Betty Martin, who provided special care, comfort and companionship to John for many years.

John was preceded in death by his Father Vernon Bryant Martin Sr. and Mother Louise Elizabeth Martin, as well as his siblings: Vernon Bryant "Turk" Martin Jr., Jewel Ann Martin Cooley, Billy Arnold Martin, Mary Martin Holben, and Ruby Lee Martin Gardner.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith and service to both family and community.

A service to celebrate John's life will be held on Friday August 8,2025. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m, at The Refuge Church - 4645 Chapel Grove, Gastonia, NC 28052.
