John "Big John" Henry Shoup

John "Big John" Henry Shoup, 83, of Belmont, NC, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia.

He was born May 3, 1941, in Mecklenburg Co, NC, son of the late Rich and Ida Mae Shoup.

Big John loved his family, fishing, welding, and listening to Elvis Presley. John was in the Army National Guard in Fort Bliss. John went on to pursue a welding career as a welder & worked at McGuire Nuclear Station then went on to build his own welding business. John was an avid welder, he loved fishing, playing pool, gambling and a special love for all animals. John was also a wonderful artist as well.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Terry Shoup; his brothers, Roy and June Shoup; his sisters, Betty, Myrtle, and Teresa; also Randy Cable, and Sandy Cable; and grandson, Jeremy Altizer.

Big John is survived by Treva Jordan, Kathy Cornelius (spouse, Arlington), John P Shoup (spouse, Von), Connie Cline (spouse, Donnie), Chad Shoup (spouse, Angie) and Darryl Cable (spouse, Debbie); 20 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.

A memorial service officiated by Rev. Sam Barnette, will be held 4:00pm, Monday, January 13, 2025, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.
