John Douglas Griffie

d. December 25, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Douglas Griffie, 56, on December 25, 2025 at his home in Clover. A beloved son, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was born November 29, 1969, in Gaston County. Known for his craftsmanship and dedication to his trade, John had a unique ability to transform raw materials into works of art, creating spaces that were both functional and beautiful. His hands, worn from years of hard work, often bore witness to his commitment to his craft and the joy he found in building.

He loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of Davis Memorial Baptist Church in Gastonia.

Beyond his life as a carpenter, John was a passionate fisherman, finding solace and peace on the water. His love for fishing was not just about the catch, but an opportunity to connect with nature and share quiet moments with friends and loved ones. He found joy in teaching others, passing down his knowledge and appreciation for the sport, and creating lasting memories around the many lakes and rivers he treasured.

John's warm heart and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him. He had a way of making those around him feel valued and heard, always lending a helping hand or a listening ear. His legacy will live on in the stories shared by friends and family and in the countless lives he enriched with his kindness.

A celebration of John's Life will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Davis Memorial Baptist Church 3358 Robinwood Road Gastonia officiated by Pastor Tony Phillips. The family will receive friends after the service.

John is survived by his son, Chris Griffie; daughter, Cheyanne Flores; mother, Doris Griffie; sisters, Jane White, Rhonda Harmon (Chris); brothers, James and Michael Griffie; several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father, Pastor Ronnie Griffie.

In this time of mourning, let us remember John not just for the work he did or the hobbies he cherished, but for the love he shared and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
