John S. Britton

Gastonia, NC - John S. Britton passed away at home on October 7 at the age of 65. John was born in Gastonia, NC and was a lifelong Gaston County resident. He graduated from Holbrook High School in 1967. He worked in the textile industry as an Industrial Engineer for 47 years at Pharr Yarns. He was always active in local churches where he taught Sunday school, missions, and sang in the choir. He is the former music leader/ choir director at Alexander Memorial Baptist of Belmont and Northside Baptist in Gastonia. He currently attended Friendship Baptist Church of Gastonia and was a member of the choir there. He is survived by daughter, Cindy Thompson, son-in-law Bill Thompson, and granddaughter Kayla Britton of the home; sons, Tim Britton, Mark McEntire Sr, Tom McIntire; daughters-in-law, Kathy and Shirley McEntire , Crystal Blackmon; grandsons, TJ Britton, Josh Britton, Zachary Britton, Todd McIntire, Mark McEntire Jr, Daniel McEntire, and Jason McEntire; granddaughters Tanisha Yepez, Crystal Croft, Lori McEntire, Tammy Jackson, and Trisha Lingerfeldt, twenty great-grandchildren; brothers, Reggie Britton, Kelly Britton, Dennis Britton, Robert Britton; sisters, Nancy Smith, Louise Hope, Alice Kirby, Martha Mayhew, Dottie Driver, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances, Sally, Gail, Becky, Boyd, Pat, and Donnie. John was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Daphene Britton, his parents Ernest and Alma Britton, his brother David, and grandson, Tony. The funeral service will be held 2:00 pm on Friday at Friendship Baptist Church, South New Hope Rd, Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Gerry Davis. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. Interment to follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Samaritan's Purse - PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
