John Edward Birt, a beloved father, grandfather, friend, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the age of 56. Born on August 6, 1968, in Lorain County, Ohio and later residing in Bessemer City, North Carolina, John was the cherished son of Larry and Janice Birt. He was a proud member of the United States Navy, which molded his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and service.
John dedicated his professional life to the field of chemical engineering, working for many fulfilling years at FMC, where he was known for his unwavering commitment to excellence and his passion for his craft. Even as health challenges arose later in life, his love for his work and the friendships he fostered in the industry remained steadfast.
Beyond his professional achievements, John's heart truly belonged to his family. He was an extraordinary father to his son, Michael, and stepdaughters, Amber and Jessica. He took great joy in being a devoted grandfather. His family's happiness was his greatest treasure, and they will forever cherish the warmth and strength he brought into their lives.
A true lover of the outdoors, John found solace and joy in fishing and hunting. He relished every moment spent in nature, embracing the tranquility it offered. His adventurous spirit and zest for life will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
John's life will be honored in a memorial service to be held at 6:30 pm Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Cornerstone Baptist Church 4357 West Dixon Boulevard, Shelby, officiated by Pastor Wagner, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his legacy and share memories. The family invites everyone whose lives he touched to join them in this commemorative ceremony.
Left to cherish John's memories are his mother, Janice Whitten Birt; son, Michael Alexander Birt; stepdaughters, Amber Hamilton (Billy Pilkin), Jessica Etters (Justin); sister, Kristi Morrow (Bruce); five grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his father, Larry Patton Birt; his brother, Larry Birt Jr.
