Joe Neal Harris, 80, of Blacksburg, SC, passed away on October 23, 2021, at Cherokee Medical Center, Gaffney, SC.
He was born September 9, 1941, in Gaston County, son of the late Clarence T. Harris and Pauline Conner Harris.
He was a US Army Veteran who proudly served in the Vietnam War where he diligently worked in water purification. He was a member of AMVET Post 920 where he was the Flag Chairman and was a member of the VFW since 1974.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge #369 and a member of the Oasis Shriners.
He was an avid beekeeper, who thoroughly enjoyed taking care of the bees and processing their honey.
He worked as a lineman and a crane operator for Duke Power from 1968-1997.
He worked with Speedway Motorsports from 1999-2001 where he drove the merchandise trailer for the Winston Cup Series.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Susan Trabue and military honors provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard and masonic rites provided by Lodge# 369.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Joe is survived by his daughters, Andrea Owens (Houston Hatchett), Gina Trabue (Mike), Joanna Harris; sister, Pamela Jane Raines; grandchildren, Elizabeth Trabue, Daniel Trabue (Amanda), Christopher Trabue; great-grandchildren, James, Hadassah, Angel.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Martie Harris; three brothers and six sisters.
