Joanne Perkins

Joanne Porter Perkins, 76, of Gastonia, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, November 7, 2015. She was born September 29, 1939 to the late Ted and Gertrude Porter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joel Lamar Greene; sister, Edith Porter Stone; brother, Gerald Porter; and nephew Dennis Whitesides. Joanne was dedicated to caring for her family. No matter the need she was there to help. She was loved by many and never met a stranger. Her passion was shopping and travel. She loved going to the beach and spending time there, weekend dances, shoes, shopping, convertibles, and fast sports cars, including her Corvette and Camaro. She was retired from Gaston Orthopedic Hospital and Gaston College after many years of loyal service. Left to cherish her memories are her husband, George "Shank" Perkins of the home; stepdaughter, Ginny Perkins Waller and husband; brother, David Watts and wife Bertha; grandchildren, Carson and Baily Thomasson; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service, officiated by the Revs. Jack Watts and Ronnie Watts, will be held 3 pm Tuesday at Flint Groves Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 - 2:45 pm Tuesday prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
