JoAnn "Mama Jo" Stokes Futch, 65, of Lincolnton, NC, passed away March 3, 2023, at her sister's residence in Belmont, NC.
She was born April 15, 1957, to the late Roy Coleman and Lois Messer Stokes.
JoAnn loved everyone. She put others before herself. She was selfless. JoAnn loved animals. Her grandbabies were like her children. She was a mother to many and was affectionately known as "Mama Jo."
In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis R. Futch; sister, Mary Ann Perin; step-children, Tammy Futch and David Futch; and granddaughter, Amanda Waddell.
JoAnn is survived by her siblings, Debra Lynn and husband Kenneth, Bryan Stokes, Chris Stokes, Kim Stokes, and Joe Stanfield; nephews, Matthew Clemmer and Jeremy Stroud; nieces, Jessica Costner and husband Joe, and Cortney Cooke and husband Michael; granddaughter, Danielle Lavender and husband Shad; great-nieces and great-nephews, Addie, Kennedi, Little Man Kane, Ashton Cooke, Katelynn Costner, Zakkary Stroud, and Todd Stroud; numerous cousins; aunts, Lorene Messer, Ethel Messer, and Omalee Stokes Armstrong; and sister-in-law Pat Whitaker.
A service to celebrate the life of JoAnn will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, NC.
