Joan Stamey

Joan Cook Stamey, 81, of Gastonia, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at her residence.

She was born on October 10, 1939, in York County, SC, to the late John and Cleo Pritchard Cook.

Joan was a member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Eugene Swink, Jr.; sisters, JoAnn Cook White, Betty Williamson, and Gayle Walden; and brothers, Glenn Cook, and Harry "Shorty" Cook.

Left to cherish Joan's memories are her husband, Don Stamey; sons, Jeff Swink, David L. Stamey, Barry S. Stamey, Charles C. Stamey, and Donald "Donnie" Stamey; sisters, Peggy Forrester, and Brenda Childers and husband Gene Childers; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Roger Overton, will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the funeral home before the service.
