The Rev. Jimmy Marshall Calhoun, 77 , of Bessemer City ,departed his earthy estate on November 5, 2013 at The Robin Johnson Hospice House, Dallas. He was born February 13, 1936 in Rutherford County, son of the late Lorain Demerial Calhoun and Ella Mae Mills Calhoun. Rev. Calhoun preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ for over 50 years. His ministry consisted of many ways of soul winning. Rev. Calhoun preached in tent meetings, street preaching and even preached in a three story church in the city of Baltimore, MD. Rev. Calhoun was an evangelist for many years going to various churches in different states like West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and California. Rev. Calhoun ministered to people in prison . He had a radio ministry for many years . He played the guitar and loved to sing for Jesus, one of his most memorable services he held was a monthly preaching and singing service at Howard Hughes Tool Company in Long Beach, California. The security was very tight , but he managed to bring Christ through those gates and many of the employees accepted Christ and took him home with them from these great meetings. Rev. Calhoun had a great love for his family and friends. He was a US Army veteran. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Soul's Harbor Tabernacle, 271 Camp Rotary Rd., Gastonia, officiated by The Rev. James Chambers. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd., Gastonia. Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, with military honors. The Rev. Calhoun is survived by: his loving wife of over 40 years, Marlene Tregoe Calhoun; son, Curtis Calhoun and wife Anna; daughters, Angela Wood, Kimberly Postelle and husband Greg; brothers, Billy and Michael Calhoun; grandchildren, Cathy Benoist, Russell Bryson, Casey and Chelsey Calhoun, Joshua and Hannah Postelle; five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: children, Patricia, Forrest, Jimmy Jr. , Shannon and Rachel Calhoun. Memorials may be sent to Gaston Hospice, c/o The Robin Johnson House, P.O.
