Jewel "Slim" Eugene Haney

Jewel "Slim" Eugene Haney, 91, of Gastonia, passed away on June 14,2016, at Belaire Healthcare Center.

He was born June 6, 1925, in Macon County, NC, son of the late Riley Haney and Sarah Wilson Haney.

Mr. Haney was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Gastonia, where he served as Deacon Emeritus. He loved his family deeply and always was there to support them. He had retired from trucking after 32 years of service.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 2021 Garland Ave. Gastonia, officiated by the Reverends Robert Cloninger and Roger Overton.

The family will receive friends 6:00 -8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia.

Burial will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.

Mr. Haney is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth H. Haney; daughters, Jill Coy, Jan Haney, June Hunnicutt and husband, Mark, Joy Johnson and husband, Billy; brother, Willard Haney and wife, Gail; sister, Julia Dills; grandchildren, Zeke Watkins, Daniel Lopp, Rob Coy, Adam, Jonathan and Jessica Hannah, Sarah and Sawyer Hunnicutt; great-grandchildren, Luke Watkins and Alora Kate Hannah.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harvey, Lonman, and Zell Haney; sisters, Ella Younce, Willa Mae Jacobs; grandchild, Taylor Hannah.
