Jerry "Red" Layel

Jerry "Red" Layel, 79, of Lowell, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

He was born October 29, 1938 in Gaston County, son of the late George Timothy Layel and Kate Davis Layel.

Jerry will be greatly missed by his family who loved him dearly. He was a US Army Veteran and retired from Pharr Yarns after 33 years. "Red" loved to fish. The family would like to thank Gaston Hospice and his caregiver, Paula Robb, for the loving care of Mr. Layel.

He is survived by his loving wife, of almost 51 years, Mary Layel; daughters, Darlene Garant (Don); Deborah Wright (David); son, Ricky Pressley (Robin); grandchildren, Tonya Sciranko (Justin); Joe Wright and Josh Wright (Nicole); great-grandchild, Chase Sciranko; sister, Shirley Joines; brother, Ronnie Layel (Belinda); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Visitation will be held at 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018, at Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum, Gastonia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC, 28054.
