Jerry Lee Guthrie

Jan 30, 1948 — Aug 4, 2026

It is with both sadness and gratitude that we announce the passing of Jerry Lee Guthrie, who left this world on August 4, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on January 30, 1948, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Jerry spent much of his life in Bessemer City, where he became not just a beloved family man but also a respected businessman as the co-owner of Guthrie Machine Shop with his father and siblings. He graduated from Belmont Abby College with a Bachelor's degree.

Jerry was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served honorably in Vietnam. His commitment to his country was a testament to his character-one marked by integrity and resilience. Those who knew him will remember his love for the outdoors; he enjoyed countless hours hunting and fishing, and he embraced the joys of foraging for morel mushrooms during the spring as well as picking pecans that his family loved to eat.

Music was another passion for Jerry, and he had a diverse taste that reflected the rhythms of his life. He cherished spending time at home, surrounded by his loved ones, often held together by shared meals, laughter, and a soundtrack of his favorite tunes.

Jerry is survived by his beloved spouse, Patricia Guthrie; his daughter, Christina Guthrie and Bill Dougan parents of granddaughters, Hannah Dougan, Hailey Dougan. Lee and Julie Buckner parents of granddaughters Anya Buckner, and Ella Buckner, brother William Guthrie. He will also be remembered by his former wife, Patricia Fried, who played a significant part in his life.

A memorial service will be held Friday, August 7, 2026, 3:00 PM, at Eighth Street Church of God, S. 8th St., Bessemer City, NC, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

As we bid farewell to Jerry, let us remember the joy he spread and the love he gave. He will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to guide us in our pursuits, just as he did throughout his life.
