Jerry Cantrell

September 6, 1939 — May 8, 2021

Jerry Newell Cantrell, 81, of Stanley, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Brian Center, Gastonia.

He was born on September 6, 1939, in Cherokee County, NC, to the late Newell James and Edeath Burdell Crawford Cantrell.

Jerry graduated from Belmont Abbey College in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later attended Wake Forest University Law School. Jerry was a veteran of the US Navy. He was an accomplished musician and was able to play all stringed instruments. Jerry was a loving father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Faye Cantrell; brother, Rayburn Cantrell; sisters, Jenny Givens, Ann Porter, and Ellen Jessup.

Left to cherish Mr. Cantrell's memories are his son, Damien Cantrell; daughters, Julia Field (Michael), Shannon Cozart (Darrell), and Catherine Cantrell- Loomis (William); brother, John Cantrell; sisters, Kathleen Kaiser and Kathy Ward;  grandchildren, Taylor Cozart, Michael, Robert, Mark Antony and Rebecca Stoop; and Ina, mother of Damien, Shannon, and Catherine.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

A Private Service will be held by the family.

Interment will be held at Gaston Memorial Park.

Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium.
