Jennie Ferguson Whitesides

May 15, 1929 — January 24, 2022

Jennie Ferguson Whitesides, 92, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully January 24, 2022 at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas, NC.

She was born in Gaston County, NC on May 15, 1929 to the late John Hurley and Edna Huffstetler Ferguson.

Jennie loved to attend City Church of Gastonia, and loved the pastor, Dickie Spargo.  She was a devoted Christian mother who loved her daughters more than anything in the world.  Her beautiful life will be cherished in the lives of her two daughters, Kaye and Debbie.  A beautiful soul with a beautiful smile, Jennie enjoyed life.  She loved outings with Debbie and Tommy – especially going out to eat.  She loved participating in the activities at the Senior Center (where she won many events) and her senior friends, especially Billie Martin, Blanche Hudson,  and Beverly Windsor. Jennie loved writing poetry and playing cards with her daughter Kaye and friend, Sandy McDonald.

Jennie was a local star.  She appeared in the Hallmark movie, "Anne Tyler's Saint Maybe".  Her photograph appeared numerous times in the Gaston Gazette – more times than the family can count.

Jennie retired from Pharr Yarns.

A special thank you to Dr. Claude Luvis, Dr. Charmaine Luvis, Dr. Michael Miller, and the staff of the Robin Johnson House for the care they provided.

In addition to her parents, Jennie was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Day, and five sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Kaye Moore and Debbie Huskins and husband Tommy; grandchildren, Mark Day and wife Kathryn, and Brad Wilson and wife, Heidi; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Day, Christopher Day, Nora Hayes, Justin Wilson, and Tyler Wilson.

A service to celebrate the life of Jennie, officiated by Pastor Jimmy Burns, will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC.  The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be private at Pisgah ARP Church cemetery.

Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

Donations can be made to City Church, 3100 Bethlehem Church St., Gastonia, NC 28056; and the Robin Johnson House, 5005 Shepards Way, Dallas, NC 28034
