Mrs. Janie Lee Hord, 89, passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2024. Her devoted daughter, Glenda, and son-in-law, Donnie, were by her side.

Janie was born in Lowell, NC on February 7, 1934. She was the only daughter with 5 brothers and you couldn't get anything past her. She was stubborn and spunky and she had a smile that lit up the room. Those qualities proved helpful throughout her life, especially as it pertained to helping care for her spirited grandchildren.

Janie spent her youth in the tobacco fields and most of her adult life in textiles and was a retiree from Pharr Yarns. She was dedicated to the church and to the Lords word. She lived it daily. In her spare-time, She enjoyed reading, crocheting, word searches, Jeopardy and Perry Mason!

Hard work and hard times never slowed her down. She was the perfect example of grace. She was slow to speak and fast at forgiveness. When she had something to say, she demanded the room and her words, they mattered, so you'd better listen. For our family, she was the last of a dying breed. A true matriarch. We should all aspire to make her proud in the days, months and years to come.

Janie waited a long time to find her Prince Charming. She wasn't one to settle. She found that in Harold Hord at the "young" age of 67 and continued loving him even after Jesus called him home in 2011.  Janie was also preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Cassie Mooneyham, brothers, Reid, Creed, Riley, and Ben and we find peace that they are all together again.

Janie leaves behind a legacy in those that loved her. She had one daughter, Glenda Quesenberry and husband, Donnie, who cared for her for many years until her dying day. There is nothing they wouldn't have sacrificed to make her life comfortable and joyous. Janie leaves behind one brother, her twin brother, JP Mooneyham and wife, Joan.  Janie also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Dietra Fritzler and husband, David; Delilah Freeman and husband, Joey; Brandon Cornwell and wife, Sallie; Melanie Thompson and husband, Steven; Angela Faile and Billy Worley; and Shawn Quesenberry. She put actions to her words to show her love and everyone had their own special connection with her.

Her legacy continues in 13 Great-Grandchildren, Kandace and Tyler Spikes, Dana, Madeline, Destany, Allissa, Hala, Kayla, Taylor, Mackenzie, Maci, Sarah, June, Gabriel, and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren Atlas, Phoenix, John Raleigh, Billie Marie and Hunter. The babies always stole her heart and the rest of the room disappeared. There are countless cousins, aunts, uncles and dear friends that have either gone before or stay behind and every single one of them held a special place in Janie's heart. She always had enough to go around.

Janie didn't do flashy. She didn't need grand gestures. She preferred a cup of coffee on a front porch with loved ones over any claim to fame. We are all more humbled for her presence in our lives. We are thankful for her strength, kindness, perseverance through tough times and quite voice in a world full of unnecessary noise. May we all remember to leave the world in a better, more comfortable and safe place, the same as she did.
