Janice Short Black

Janice Short Black, 71, of Gastonia, passed away June 5, 2018 at Alexandria Place in Gastonia.

She was born, a native of Gaston County on August 30, 1946 the daughter of the late James Short and Vera Newton Short.

Janice was a kind, loving, and patient person.  She enjoyed helping and being with people.  Janice possessed a quiet strength and was a devoted wife and mother.  She loved greatly and was greatly loved.  This world was a better place because of her.

Janice is survived by her son, Jeff Black and wife, Kathy; daughter, Cherisse Shirley; sister, Dorothy Stokes; grandchildren, Denise Shirley, Hannah Nelson, and Mary Madeline Black; and great-granddaughter, Sofia Nelson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Ray Black and brother, Jimmy Short.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, with the Rev. Michael Owens officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Armstrong Cemetery.
