It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James William Williams Sr., who left us on August 20, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on July 25, 1942, in Kentucky, James was a beloved father, brother, and friend, who called Gastonia, North Carolina, home.
James was known for his hard work and dedication as a heating and air installer. He was proud of the skills he honed throughout his life and took great joy in helping others stay comfortable in their homes his wisdom and knowledge far exceeded formal education, and he was always willing to lend a hand or share a story.
James is survived by his three sons: Sam Williams, Thomas Williams, and James Williams Jr. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Linda and Hope Williams, who meant the world to him. His loving sisters, Kathy Maxwell and Margaret Williams, along with his step-siblings Melissa Davis, Robert Guess, Roger Guess, and Gary Guess, his grandchildren, Ayla Williams, Pashia Newman (Barry), Tyler Williams, Katherin Mancilla (Sergio), Daniel Williams; great-grandchildren, Jadyn Williams, Kaydence Crews, Serenity, Rowan, Kieran Mancilla, will also cherish his memory.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate James's life at his funeral service, which will take place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Emmanuel Freewill Baptist Church, 208 N. Spargo Street, Dallas, NC, officiated by Reverend Sherman Branch. The visitation will be from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, followed by the service at 1:00 PM. Following the service, James will be laid to rest at the Forest Lawn West Cemetery, located at 4601 Freedom Dr., Charlotte, NC.
Though James has left this world, his spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his warmth, humor, and unyielding support for his family.
James was preceded in death by his parents Otis and Louann Guess Williams, and his wife, Brenda Williams; son, Ronald Lee Williams; and daughter in law, Ann Williams.
