James Lee Whelchel Jr., 58, of Gastonia, passed away July 7, 2018, at his home.
He was born September 24, 1959, in Gaston County, son of the late James Whelchel Sr. and Pauline Williams Welchel.
Mr. Whelchel was a US Army veteran.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 am Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, officiated by the Rev. Howard Sherrill.
Military honors will be provided by the US Army.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia.
Mr. Whelchel is survived by daughter, Ashley Whelchel; two sisters, a brother-in-law; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, David Dobson.
Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
