James "Jim" Watson Thompson, 84, of Bessemer City, passed away on Jan. 19, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born in Gaston County, the son of the late Maude Strickland Thompson and late William Henry Thompson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from WestVaco.
He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Spencer Thompson, of 60 years, a sister Thelma Hill, and a brother Johnny Thompson.
He is survived by sons, Dean Thompson & wife Gina of Gastonia, Bill Thompson of Dallas; daughters, Anita Thompson Parise & husband Dennis of Morganton, Pam Thompson Hoffman & husband Todd of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Jeff Thompson & wife Beth, Erica Hoffman Kelly & husband Brad, Spencer Hoffman, and Adam Fowler; great-grandchildren, Madison & Paylin Kelly, Kinsley Hoffman, Matt and Ava Thompson; and sisters, Ethel Beavers and Joyce Key of Dallas; extended family Roy and Shirley Phillips, and, the Giles family.
The family will receive friends from 2 - 3 pm Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Independent Baptist Tabernacle, 2128 Dallas-Cherryville Highway, Dallas. A celebration of life will follow the visitation at 3 pm with the Reverends Ralph Carver and Rick Lewis officiating. Interment will be held at Westview Gardens Cemetery Bessemer City, NC with military honors.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. David Cosenza for his continuous care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church.
