James Aaron Thompson

We are deeply saddened to announce that James Aaron Thompson, affectionately known as Jimmy, passed away on June 20, 2026, at the age of 61. Born on July 6, 1964, in Gaston County, North Carolina, he spent his life in Gastonia, where he became a beloved member of the community.

Jimmy was known for his dedication as a custodian in the public school system, where he worked tirelessly to ensure a clean and welcoming environment for students and staff alike. Outside of work, he was a proud member of the Gaston Shrine Club and a dedicated participant in the Masonic Lodge, where he built friendships that spanned many years.

Family was everything to Jimmy. He loved spending time with his brothers, Joey Thompson (Roxanne) and Terry Thompson; sisters, Lena Ballew (Jeff) and Tina Provost (Rhett) and cherished his father, Rex Thompson. Whether it was sharing stories around the dinner table or taking trips to the beautiful mountains, he always made time for the people he loved. His kind heart and willingness to help others were evident to everyone who knew him.

A visitation will be held at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where family and friends can gather to remember and celebrate Jimmy's life. His funeral service will take place there on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites.

Jimmy will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on in our hearts.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Davidson Thompson.
