James A. Summitt (Jimmy), departed this life on December 13, 2015, to rejoice with his heavenly Father after giving a beautiful testimony of faith. He was born December 16, 1937 to the late Henry and Helen Holcomb Summitt. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn R. Summitt. He is survived by his son Michael (Mikie) of the home; daughter Beverly Washburn and husband Leonard of Elkin; grandchildren Chrissy Grantland and husband Ray of Cherryville, Brian Richardson Jr. and wife Sheena of Gastonia, Wesley A. Richardson of Belmont; great-grandchildren Christopher, Taylor and Houston Ledford, Joseph and Victoria Grantland and Bobby Hensley all of Cherryville; sister Drucilla Harrison and brother Paul Summitt both of Gastonia; brothers-in-law Jack and David Rasberry, both of Bessemer City; many beloved nieces and nephews and many more beloved friends. He never met a stranger. Paw Paw Jim was an avid fisherman and a fisher of men. He was an ordained minister who lived a simple life teaching Gods word and spreading love to all he met. A funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by the Revs. Ray Goodson and Mike Wilson. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Westview Gardens. Memorials may be made to Cancer Services of Gaston County – 306 S.
